Season For SharingSpecial Appreciation Gifts For Platelet Donors

United Blood Services donors can become “Angels for Life” and earn their wings by donating platelets. Platelet donors who complete the program by giving platelets four times now through December 31 earn recognition on the Angels for Life banner and are also extended an invitation to attend United Blood Services Silent Heroes recognition event on April 1, 2011.

Platelet donations are in greatest demand during the fourth quarter of the year, a time when the seasonal increase in the state’s population makes it difficult to meet patient blood needs. According to Audrey Jennings, executive director for United Blood Services, every platelet donor provides a gift to patients without expecting anything in return.
“They give a boost to the recipient and to those who love them,” says Jennings.
