Catherine Longworth, former Lord Mayor of London, (center) honored the Desert Mountain High School Band with a personal invitation to participate in the 2011 New Year’s Day Parade and Festival in London.

The Desert Mountain High School Band announced that it has been selected from among hundreds of band programs world-wide to appear in the 2011 London New Year’s Day Parade and Festival in London, England on December 29-January 2.

In addition, the Desert Mountain Band has been selected to be a part of an elite group of 400 musicians to perform at the conclusion of the parade in a mass concert.
Band Director Michelle Irvin recently traveled to the UK capital to finalize arrangements and is excited that the band will experience this once in a lifetime opportunity.
“It is wonderful to give the world a window to our traditional pageant,” says festival Executive Director Bob Bone. “I am delighted that these talented young people will be featured to the fullest. They come highly recommended, with our International Selection Panel singing their praises.”
