Cave Creek Museum Re-opens For The Season

Cave Creek Museum re-opens for the season on Saturday, October 1. Located at 6140 Skyline Drive, Cave Creek Museum features an extensive collection of prehistoric and historic artifacts that describe the lives of Native Americans, miners, ranchers and pioneers. The October schedule of events includes:
September 30-October 1 – Red carpet screening of Cave Creek Uncovered
7-9pm at Good Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church, 6502 East Cave Creek Road. Admission is $10 per person. All proceeds benefit Cave Creek Museum. Limited seating. Reservations are requested.
October 22 – Touch of Native Peoples Children’s Program
12:30-4:30pm at the Museum, 6140 Skyline Drive. Free admission to the Museum and demos; $10 for the workshop series. Limited seating – reservations are requested by October 21. Suggested age: children six years and older and adults
Kids and adults can experience pottery making, flint knapping (projectile points) and sandal making in this unique hands-on, educational workshop, which focuses on the native people of the Desert Foothills area, their daily life, talents, and tools.
The Museum is planning several other events during the season, including a “Miner’s Dinner” fund-raiser for its Stamp Mill in November, “Antiques Appraisal Days” in January, “Authors’ Month” in February, and more.
The museum hours are Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 1-4:30pm, and Friday from 10am-4:30pm. Entrance fees are $5 for adults; $3 for seniors; and $2 for students. Children 12 and under are free. For more information, call 480.488.2764, or visit www.cavecreekmuseum.org.
Frontier Town To Host Community Firefighter Chili Challenge
Chili is a fall favorite, but for Arizona firefighters and first responders, it is a way to give back to the community. On Saturday, November 5, Frontier Town, a signature Cave Creek establishment for more than 40 years, will host firefighters and first responders as they cook their favorite red chili recipes all day for the chance to win great prizes. Chili aficionados from the general public are encouraged to enter the contest, which costs only $10. There is no entry fee for firefighters.
Proceeds from the entry fees and tasting samples, which are $5 for five tasting tickets, will benefit the Cave Creek Heritage Foundation, the 100 Club and Cub Scout Pack 548. Chili makers must provide their own equipment and awnings and be on-hand to serve their chili from 8am-5pm at Frontier Town, which is located at 6245 East Cave Creek Road.
The prize categories and first place cash prizes are:
- Firefighters: Choice award ($400); Judges’ award ($200)
- Other entrants: People’s Choice award ($250); Judges’ award ($150)
