PARTING SHOT - The Story Behind The Shot
This month’s winning photo takes us to the “top of the world” – Mt. Everest. The photo was submitted by Geoffrey Fullen of Scottsdale, who tells this story:
“It took six days to travel from the AZ-Tibet base camp. The trip was like nothing I’ve ever experienced in my world travels. As soon as I landed in Lhasa Tibet it was raining, which I knew would prove difficult if I was going to see the top of the world in clear view. As each day closed, the rain continued. One day out from base camp from the Tibetan side of Base Camp the rain was still thick. But as we crossed the third and final 16,000 pass on a dirt road (four wheel vehicle) the clouds parted; my group of four saw the top of the world for the first time. As we got closer we passed yet another four-wheel vehicle – all vehicle passengers were returning saying that they were not able to see the top of the world. As we turned the last corner of the mountain, the skies opened up and we had clear blue skies. It was a sight that I've always dreamed of.”
With this year’s theme – Oh, The Places We’ve Been! – we want to offer our readers a visual vacation from the daily grind, so as you travel this year – in-state, out-of-state or around the world – consider sharing your experience with us.
