Kick Off The New Year With Bye Bye Birdie

Desert Stages Theatre (DST) presents Bye Bye Birdie, the American musical stage and film classic, January 7-February 18.
DST Artistic Director Terry Helland directs this musical, which fans have swooned over for 50 years. An Elvis-like celebrity, Conrad Birdie, receives his draft notice from the Army. In a publicity stunt that stands the spin-test of time, a national contest offer is publicized to send him off with a kiss from one lucky female fan. The campaign wreaks hilarious havoc. The Broadway favorite features timeless tunes: “Kids,” “Put on a Happy Face,” “The Telephone Hour” and “Bye Bye Birdie.
Desert States Theatre is located at 4720 North Scottsdale Road, just north of Scottsdale Fashion Square. For show times and ticket information, call 480.483.1664, Extension 1, or visit www.desertstages.org.

Drug-Free America Announces New Name & Resources
Re-launch includes new local website

The Arizona Affiliate of the Partnership for a Drug-Free America announces the launch of its new name and website, DrugFreeAz.org
A survey of Arizona parents conducted by DrugFreeAz.org shows that parents turn to the internet as their number one source for information about preventing underage drinking and drug use. The new name, DrugFreeAz.org, clearly tells parents where they can find helpful resources and tools.
Features of the comprehensive new site include a wealth of tools for parents and caregivers, information about community partners and useful resource links for parents and teens.  The site also features a brand new parent blog, a video of the week, an online learning center, a monthly e-newsletter sign up and a calendar of events which features upcoming parent workshops.
“It’s our goal to be a partner to parents in raising healthy, drug-free kids,” says Leslie Bloom, CEO of DrugFreeAz.org.  “Parents want to know where helpful resources reside and how to connect with other parents.  DrugFreeAz.org is the place for them.  We will also continue to offer educational training and resources beneficial to communities statewide.”
The local name change also reflects a name change at the national level.  The Arizona Affiliate’s parent organization, The Partnership for a Drug-America, recently changed its name to The Partnership at DrugFree.org
